The decision to opposed such a move by the union government was taken at its emergency meeting held at Guwahati, Assam on Tuesday

“The Government of India should know and understand that North East is not a dumping ground of illegal migrants whoever they may be either Hindus or Muslims,” NESO chairman Samuel B Jyrwa said in a statement.

He said that the north eastern region will not take any burden of illegal foreigner who came after 1971 as per Assam Accord.

The meeting also discussed on the deteriorating situation in Manipur vis-à-vis the creation of 7 new districts resulting in the imposition of economic blockade since November last year.

He said the NESO is seriously concerned with the suffering of the common people due to the prevailing situation in Manipur.

“The Government of India should not shrink its responsibility and NESO demands that the Government of India should intervene and take the initiative to solve the issue and to bring all the parties involved to the negotiating table so that the issue can be resolved amicably,” Jyrwa said.

Jyrwa informed that the NESO will be meeting the Union Home Minister and also the Minister of State for Home to impress upon them to resolve this issue at the earliest.
