Needs to simplify rules

One of the causes of backwardness in Meghalaya is the lack of information in the rural areas. The State government often makes rosy announcements of launching schemes like roadways and different projects under the mission mode. Yet this information hardly percolates down to the targeted people.

Therefore people, mostly in the rural areas, hardly gets to know about the schemes that are meant to benefit them. Even in the agriculture sector most of the farmers are not aware of the various schemes and incentives which are offered to them as there exists huge communication gap. Sadly most of the schemes/projects goes waste even if the financially allotment had already been sanctioned.

Another major drawback in the process of development is the existence of stringent redtapism ism, in which those who want to avail of certain schemes have to run from pillar to post which actually proves to be a deterrent in availing the benefit of the scheme(s). Even for minor scheme the farmers are made to make several visits to the block offices, district headquarters and to Shillong.

If the government really wants that the schemes should really benefit the targeted group it must then consider simplifying the process making it people’s friendly. The government’s redtapism acts like a deterrent to the farmers, who whom the benefits had been conceived. Unless the process is simplified, such schemes will only benefit few.
