NESO condemns murder

SHILLONG, SEPT 24: The North East Students’ Organisation (NESO) condemned the brutal killing of a 23 year old  college student Banker Passah from Chilliangraij, Jowai, in Dharwad Karnataka who was a final year student of Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery (BMHS) at Dr. B D Jatti Homeopathic Medical College.

In a press statement issued on Wednesday, NESO chairman Samuel Jyrwa and secretary general Sinam Prakash Singh said the act of targeting Banker Passah was not an isolated case but a continuation of such harassment and intimidation in different parts of mainland India which portray the attitude and mindset that they have towards the people from North East.

The NESO urged the Karnataka chief minister, home minister to take adequate measures to prevent recurrence of targeting people from the North East, to ensure safety and safeguard of north east students studying there and give severest punishment to the culprits responsible for such an criminal acts.

The statement said lack of educational facilities and opportunities in the region has forced the students to go out for professional and other allied studies which makes them vulnerable to such harassment and attacks which very often proved to be fatal even resulting in death. Lack of overall development of the northeast has already alienated people of the region and failure on the part of the governments to check racial discrimination will alienate the north easterners further, the statement said,

NESO also conveyed its deepest sympathy and condolences to the bereaved family.- By Our Reporter
