New Mynso market sheds

SHILLONG, APR 3: P.S Dkhar, deputy commissioner of the West Jaintia Hills district, inaugurated the new sheds in the ancient market of Mynso Pyllun the construction of which was financed by the MRDS DMU-JH in collobartion with the local Dorbar.

The sheds were constructed at a cost of Rs 5 lakh, out of which Rs. 4.50 lakh was funded by MRDS and the remaining amount was contributed by the community through the Dorbar.

Speaking on the occasion, Dkhar urged the village Dorbar and the community to take ownership of the infrastructure by taking good care of them. He also observed that there was an urgent need on for waste management, proper sanitation and good drinking facility at the site.

Appreciating the initiative of MRDS in developming the area, he emphasized on the need of collaborative endeavor of other departments of the government for the well being of this oldest market of the district.

Mynso Pyllun is home to an ancient market place where villagers from ten surrounding villages sell and buy products. Known as Ka Iaw, the market was set up during the Jaintiapur kingdom many many years back.

According to S. Shylla, a member of Seinraj Mynso, the annual ritual of Ka iew niam held in the middle of the market place which has an alter known as Maw Muknor. The market is jointly managed by the local Dorbar and Seinraj Mynso. All decisions pertaining to the market, including generation of funds through collection of tax, is taken by both the bodies.

Others who spoke at the inaugural function included S. F. Lyngdoh, project manager MRDS–Lifcom DMU JH, Metar Kya, secretary of Mynso village besides other village elders who shared the history of Ka Iaw Ryngkat.

The deputy commissioner also laid the foundation of the community hall of Mynso A village. The project will be built at a cost of Rs 22,54,500.00, out of which MRDS has funded Rs. 3,40,975.00 and the local community has contributed Rs 1 lakh. The rest will funded through the MPLAD scheme, the deputy commissioner said. (By Our Reporter)
