richieSHILLONG, MAR 22: If you think that sitting Congress MP who is seeking reelection from the Shillong Lok Sabha seat is the richest candidate to contest the Lok Sabha polls, think again.

Pala might have been the richest candidate till yesterday but on Saturday, Independent candidate Denis Siangshai emerged the richest with his total assets worth Rs 332. 65 crore to Pala’s Rs 241.75 crore.

However, both Siangshai and Pala interestingly are from East Jaintia hills district.

According to his  asset declaration by affidavit, Siangshai (49), a resident of Mookhep village under Lad Rymbai, has assets worth Rs 332.65 crore.

Siangshai has Rs 60 lakh cash in hand while his spouse Mela Kyndait has Rs 20 lakh cash in hand.  He owns gold worth Rs 40,000 and 9 mm pistol worth Rs 2.10 lakh while his spouse has gold ornaments weighing 5 tolas worth Rs 2 lakh.

The total gross value of his movable asset is Rs 92, 70, 195 lakhs while the value of his spouse is Rs 22, 00, 000 lakhs. The total current market value immoveable and movable assets is Rs 127, 55, 55, 252 crore.

Interestingly, Siangshai ,who has 11 children, has no loan or dues to bank or financial institutions.

Siangshai has agricultural lands in 17 locations worth Rs 140.5 crore and non-agricultural land in four location worth Rs 10.15 crore including residential buildings worth Rs 44.90 crore.

Meanwhile, the combined wealth of Congress candidate Vincent Pala and his wife Dimorine Tariang is Rs 241.75 crore as per asset declaration by affidavit.

Pala and spouse has Rs 10 lakh  and Rs 5 lakh cash in hands.

The current market value of his immovable assets including cost of property and residential buildings is Rs 33.26 crore while market value of immovable assets of his spouse is Rs 11.29 crore.

While he owns no agricultural lands, Pala has nine non-agricultural lands worth Rs 31.26 crore whereas his wife has eight landed properties worth Rs 74 crore besides three residential buildings worth Rs 48.5 crore.

Having accounts in at least 25 banks, the amount of money deposited by Pala is Rs 38.67 crore while his wife has a total bank balance of Rs 19 lakhs in different banks.- By Our Reporter
