No chance for Congress to support NPP-led MDA govt: Wahlang

SHILLONG, JUNE 20: Congress MDC from Nongstoin Gabriel Wahlang on Tuesday said that there is no chance for his party to extend support to the NPP-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government.

He was reacting to the speculation that the Congress may support the MDA government after extending support to the NPP for the formation of the new executive committee in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).

“We only support the NPP in the KHADC for the welfare of our culture. District council is so much different from the state. Therefore, there is no chance for the party to support the MDA government. We are not going to support the MDA,” Wahlang told reporters.

When asked, he said that the chief minister had not approached the Congress for supporting the MDA.2 government.

NPP’s Bajop Pyngrope had claimed that anything is possible in politics and that the Congress may support the NPP even at the state level.

To this, Wahlang said, “BJP is from NPP and he may say whatever he likes but we are Congress and we are not going to support the government in the state.”
