Nongmynsong tops SSLC merit list

SHILLONG, MAY 23: The results of Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) and Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) (Arts stream) examinations conducted by Meghalaya Board of School Education were declared today.

For the first time, students from two schools in East Khasi Hills District shared the jubilation of success when they secured the first position in the SSLC top-twenty merit list.

Duyu Asung of St George Secondary School, Nongmynsong, Shillong and Lamphrang Lyngdoh of RK Mission Higher Secondary School, Cherrapunjee became toppers of this year’s examination by scoring 568 marks each.Similarly, the second and third positions were also jointly bagged by four schools.

The Idarikor Warshong of Eriben Presbyterian Sec School, Shillong and Rahul Sen of Don Bosco Hr Sec School, Tura secured the second position, Daffica Kynter of Synod Hr Sec School, Shillong and Da E Kynsai Mitre Pyrngap of North Liberty Hr Sec School, Jowai bagged the third position respectively.

IMG_0010Meanwhile, Dimsonjem Vaiphei of St Anthony’s Hr Sec School, Shillong topped the HSSLC Arts examinations followed by Ricarldy Dkhar of Synod College, Shillong and Calvin Ginminilen Zou of St Edmund’s Hr Sec School, Shillong in second and third position.

The overall pass percentage in the SSLC examination stood at 54.04 percent, which is the same, compared to last year’s result which was at 54.10 percent.

Of the total 50,974 candidates who appeared in the examinations held in 134 centres, 27,547 were declared as successful while 23,427 students were detained.

West Jaintia Hills District registered highest pass percentage with 78.70 per cent while South West Garo Hills District secured the lowest percentage of pass with 21.45 per cent.

The pass percentage of the female SSLC candidates is 70.09 per cent and male is only 71.51 per cent while  in the HSSLC examination, the pass percentage was recorded at 75.38 percent, which is an increased by only 1.34 percent.

Out of 21,083 students who appeared in examination, a total of 15,609 were declared successful. The female HSSLC pass percentage stood at 78.86 per cent while male was only 59.95 per cent.

East Khasi Hills District secured the highest percentage with 87.54 per cent while East Garo Hills District registered the lowest pass percentage with 48.24 per cent.

Meanwhile, 6 SSLC candidates mostly from Garo Hills and 10 HSSLC candidates were debarred from appearing in the next examinations, 2018, after they were expelled for adopting unfair means during the board’s examination.
