Nongrum to resign as CEM

SHILLONG, MAR 7: Left with no option the All Regional Parties Alliance (ARPA) leader and KHADC chief executive member Adelbert Nongrum decided to quit the CEM’s chair as his Executive Committee has been reduced to minority after another ARPA Executive Member switched over to the Congress led PDF.

Nongrum told reporters on Saturday, “I am ready to take moral responsibility by resigning from the post if I am the reason behind this ongoing crisis.” He said he has informed the ARPA about my decision and will resign at an appropriate time.

Nongrum’s decision came after three EMs of the ARPA led executive committee (EC) resigned within a span of 10 days. Yesterday, UDP MDC Hadrian Lyngdoh tendered his resignation from the ARPA and UDP after switching over to PDF.

Earlier, two EMs which include Independent MDC Grace Mary Kharpuri and former KHNAM MDC PT Sawkmie had defected to the PDF.

Now the strength of the PDF is 16 MDCs while ARPA now has 14 MDCs in the thirty-member KHADC. – By Our Reporter
