NPP is trying to hoodwink the people: Pala

SHILLONG, FEB 10: The ruling Congress today accused the National People’s Party (NPP) leaders of lying to the people of the state by claiming that the party has no link with the BJP and is going ‘solo’ after the Assembly polls.

In a statement issued here, Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) working president and Shillong MP Vincent H Pala said, “NPP state president WR Kharlukhi either has differences of opinion with his national president Conrad Sangma or is clearly trying to hoodwink the people of Meghalaya with an eye on electoral gains into believing that NPP is not hand in glove with BJP.”

He said first and foremost while Kharlukhi says NPP will not have any post-poll alliance with the BJP or any other party, their national president Conrad K Sangma says that he does not rule out any post poll alliance with BJP or other parties.

Quoting from an interview recently, Pala said that it was mentioned that Conrad does not deny any possibility of a post poll alliance with the BJP or any like minded regional party.

“This proves either Kharlukhi is lying or the state president and the national president of NPP are not on the same page and there are differences within themselves,” he said.

The Congress leader also said that Kharlukhi had gone overboard in denying that NPP does not have political nexus with BJP and maintains that the party does not believe inn following the ideology of other political parties.

He however said that Kharlukhi does not have any answer to the questions as to why the NPP sided with the BJP in Manipur and helped them form the government in Manipur when they obviously had ideological differences with BJP.

Referring to the claim of the NPP that it does not believe in the ideology of other political parties, Pala however said they said the same thing in Manipur of going solo before the polls and we have seen what happened after the polls and how the NPP behaved in an opportunistic manner throwing ideological differences to the wind and formed an alliance with the BJP.

Moreover, he said, while Kharlukhi gives statemennts to the press that NPP would prefer Nitish Kumar as Prime Minister instead of Narendra Modi, Conrad Sangma o the other hand goes all out to praise Narendra Modi  and has termed the NDA government as ‘excellent’.

“It is evident that while Kharlukhi tries his level best to distance NPP from the BJPP, their actions speak louder than words,” Pala said.

Meanwhile, the Congress working president maintained that the people of Meghalaya are politically conscious and will not like to see their state handed out on a platter to communal forces by opportunist parties like the NPP.
