SHILLONG, AUG 7: The National People’s Party (NPP) has demanded that the Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma immediately ask the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to probe into recent allegations made by him against the links between the Achik National Volunteer Council – Breakaway (ANVC.B) and the ISI.

“If these statements are based on irrefutable and reliable intelligence  and if the chief minister is really and genuinely concerned about such links, then the chief minister should immediately ask for the NIA to investigate into the matter so that appropriate action can be taken instead of offering mere lip service,” NPP spokesperson James K Sangma said in a statement on Thursday.

Sangma said, “The statement made by the chief minister which is of an extremely serious nature bears significance since  he is the executive head of the State who is privy to intelligence reports and the veracity of this allegation cannot be contested.”

Stating that the matter is of such a grave nature involving national security, Sangma said the party feels that the state security agencies are not equipped adequately and therefore cannot deal with it.  He, therefore, said there is a need for the National Investigation Agency (NIA) who are the appropriate agency to deal with such matters relating to National security, to investigate.- By Our Reporter
