NPP MDCs oppose move by panel to petition against MoU

SHILLONG, APR 29: Eleven MDCs of the National People’s Party (NPP) on Friday categorically rejected the move to file a petition against Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Meghalaya and Assam for ending the dispute in 6 of 12 areas of difference.

A letter conveying the unanimous decision of the NPP parliamentary party was also submitted to the Chief Executive Member of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Titosstarwell Chyne after a meeting.

“We support the MoU signed between the governments of Meghalaya and Assam regarding the border issue,” KHADC deputy CEM and chairman of the NPP parliamentary party Gigur Myrthong said in the letter.

“We have unanimously decided that we are not part of the move by sections within the KHADC to file any case on this issue in any Court of law,” he said.

Myrthong further termed the press statement given by the Executive Member in-charge Elaka and Vice Chairman of the Border Committee Jambor War as “wrong”.

“This is because the decision taken in the meeting was not that the council will appeal in the court, but it was left to the Himas and the private parties to appeal in the court if deemed fit,” he stated.
