SHILLONG, FEB 4: The National People’s Party (NPP) promised that it will not allow corruption to eat away the moral and social fabric of the society and, if voted to power, will ensure that there is a fully functional Vigilance Commission and appointment of a Lokayukta.
This commitment is part of the NPP manifesto released for the upcoming February 23 Meghalaya asssembly elections by Opposition and NPP leader Conrad Sangma at its party office on Monday.
The manifesto also promises of providing a “stable government” besides ensuring a strong delivery mechanism to maintain accountability and transparency.
Besides, an audio CD for election campaign both in Khasi and Garo languages was also released.
“The core issue in the working plan of the party in the government would be to stress on the ‘delivery mechanism’ of the government which include strict monitoring and maintenance of accountability to the people,” Sangma said while releasing the manifesto.
Stating that the party has highlighted and touched on all major areas of development in the manifesto, Sangma, however, admitted that the manifesto is not a detailed document but it only provide the guidelines of a detailed working plan of the party, if it is elected to power.
Observing the political climate in the last five years, the manifesto further stated that the party is committed to providing a stable government, strong leadership, transparency, inclusiveness and collaboration which is the need of the hour adding that the party stands for change and growth.
The manifesto also touched all major areas of concern in the state including corruption, insurgency problem, influx and environmental issues besides different developmental programmes.
Stating that the NPP desires to improve the deteriorating law and order situation in the state, the manifesto spell out that insurgency problem needs to be dealt in a holistic manner by ensuring that while the doors of negotiation are open to the various insurgent outfits, yet the rule of law will be applicable to those who violate the democratic rights of citizens.
Promising a comprehensive policy for the development of women in the state, the manifesto also said it would move for a 10 per cent reservation in central government jobs for NE people.- By Our Reporter
