SHILLONG, JULY 22: A 42-year-old man was arrested on Friday in connection with the death of a woman, whose body was recovered from Umtyra village in East Jaintia Hills District.
Hedstar Dohtdong (42) of Pyrda village, West Khasi Hills District was arrested with the assistance of police personnel from Byrnihat police station and Assam police, the district police apprehended the suspect within 24 hours on basis of strong evidence, East Jaintia Hills Addl SP said.
The deceased person identified as Grecia Bareh of Dkhiah East was with the suspect on the night before the recovery of the dead body, he said.
The body of Grecia was found lying inside a drain on the roadside at a place called Um-Im, Umtyra village, East Jaintia Hills, NH-06 on July 19.
Accordingly, a case was registered with the Khliehriat women police station.
Furthermore, on receipt of the FIR filed by the brother of the deceased, Pura Bareh, a case has been registered and further investigation is on. Based on post mortem report further sections will be added, the Addl SP said.
