SHILLONG, OCT 9: A 56-year-old cancer patient, who tested positive for COVID-19, died at the Shillong civil hospital taking the death toll in the state to 61 on Friday, even as 127 cases were detected pushing the count to 2,424.
Phlabia Sun, a resident of ICAR Pyllun Damsite, succumbed to her illness on Thursday night after staying at the hospital since September 25, Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman War said.
“The cause of death was due to acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) with septic shock, COVID-19 and cancer,” he said.
The senior medical officer informed that the fresh cases include 95 from East Khasi Hills district, 13 from West Garo Hills district, 8 from Ri Bhoi district, 5 from South Garo Hills district, 4 from North Garo Hills district and 2 from East Jaintia Hills district.
Out of the 71 recovered COVID-19 patients, Dr War said, 33 are from East Khasi Hills, 29 from West Garo Hills, 5 from Ri Bhoi and two each from East Garo Hills and South West Garo Hills.
He said 4,903 COVID-19 patients have been discharged as on date.
The state has detected a total of 7,388 COVID-19 out of which 2,424 are active cases, 4,903 recovered and 61 deaths.
East Khasi Hills district tops the list of districts in positive cases with 1,728 infections, that include 33 Armed Forces and Paramilitary Forces and 1,696 civilians, followed by Ri Bhoi 297 and West Garo Hills 174.
In the other districts, 44 cases in West Jaintia Hills, 39 in South West Garo Hills, 38 in East Jaintia Hills, 31 in South Garo Hills, 25 in North Garo Hills, 23 in South West Khasi Hills, 18 in East Garo Hills and 6 in West Khasi Hills.
“Till date, swab samples of 1, 69,449 persons have been tested of which 1,62,061 were found negative,” the senior medical official said.
There are 46,760 entrants from outside the state, he said.
