“Optimistic of UDP support”

SHILLONG, JULY 7: Soon after the visit of NDA presidential candidate Ram Nath Kovind in which leader of opposition Donkupar Roy along with three of his party MLAs attended, Congress was quick to react as the ruling party is optimistic of getting UDP’s support for its candidate.

Congress spokesperson and cabinet Minister Zenith Sangma said, “I don’t think his (Donkupar Roy) conscience will allow him to take wrong decision”.  Congress is optimist that UDP will support opposition sponsored candidate.

Zenith was referring to Leader of Opposition, Donkupar Roy claim in which he rebuff Meira Kumar’s statement, and declared that in a presidential poll, “it is better to go by the winner.”

“Roy is a good human being and he will take correct decision,” Sangma said.

Earlier, Opposition’s presidential nominee, Meira Kumar claimed that the United Democratic Party (UDP) has pledged support for her candidature.

At the same go Sangma also pointed out there NDA candidate will get less votes from Meghalaya and Mizoram.

“For formality sake he has visited Meghalaya as they also know they will not get much support as almost all the legislators are with the opposition party sponsored candidate Meira Kumar,” Sangma said.

“People who think for the future and integration of nation, their inner conscience will dictate them what to do,” Sangma added.​
