Outreach prog held

SHILLONG, OCT 12:As part of the Chief Minister’s Career Guidance Scheme, the District Administration in tandem with Planning Department, North Garo Hills organized an outreach programme on Career Guidance and Counseling for the students, drop outs and unemployed youths of Achotchonggre village under North Garo Hills district on Thursday.

The Career Guidance Counseling Programme is the state government’s initiative to nurture the youths of the state to have a prospective career by enlightening them on arrays of career options one can opt for base on one’s own potentiality.
Urging the students to identify their passion and convert it into profession the Deputy Commissioner, SC Sadhu while orienting the gathering as the Chief Guest said that due to paucity of jobs in the government sector, individual must now focus on entrepreneurship. Referring to his statement, the DC said “career is not only opting for government services rather career is that which incorporates the interest of a person enabling them to make a living”.
Deliberating on the approaches on Careers the DC also added that apart from the prevalent state services there are other occupational sectors such as Banking, UPSC, SSC and Railways etc where the local youths can lay their hands on and help address gaps and shortages as is the scenario in most of the central government jobs.
 Resource persons who spoke on various career options and skill development were Kajorie Sangma, Assistant Employment Officer, Peter Marak, Skill Development Officer and JTSangma, General Manager, DCIC.
