Opposition Congress chief and Shillong MP Vincent H Pala has urged people supporting other political parties to unite and vote for the Congress in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, to be held on April 19.

Addressing during his election campaigns to the border areas at Malangkona and Athiabari in West Khasi Hills on Saturday (March 16), Pala said, “It doesn’t matter if you are with any political party, be it NPP, TMC, UDP or VPP, let us unite and support the Congress because in Delhi it is either Congress or BJP (which will form the next government).”

He said if the Congress is strengthened the community will also be strengthened.

Stating that governance is one sided as on today, Pala said, “The rich are becoming richer and the poor, poorer. People in power are becoming richer. Moreover, the price of betel nuts has come down because they allow people who are supplying betel nuts to come from outside…That is why if you transport anything on the roads they will ask for money because anything legal they will disturb but illegal things if you pay they will make it legal. Therefore, the government in Meghalaya is one sided and slowly this will create a huge problem for the state and the youths.”

“MPs are policy makers. Any policy framed in Delhi, the states have to implement. If Delhi comes up with a policy for Hindu, the Hindus are happy, if it is a policy for Christian, the Christian are happy, policies for businessmen, they are happy but it is not like that, governance in India should be based as per constitution. That the livelihood of the poor should be improved and the rich will help pay taxes to help the poor and employment should be given to all – that is the policy of the Congress. That is the difference between Congress and the BJP,” he added.
