Paul to MUA:Power drunk

SHILLONG, SEPT 19: The Meghalaya People’s Forum (MPF) termed the stand of the Congress led MUA-II government as “heady arrogance of power-drunk establishment with potentially dangerous consequences”.

In a statement issued on Thursday, MPF spokesperson and UDP working president Paul Lyngdoh said, “We are astounded by the MUA decision not only to reject the ILP demand, but also to not engage with civil society groups anymore. This epitomises the heady arrogance of a power-drunk establishment with potentially dangerous consequences.”

Lyngdoh’s statement came a day after chief minister Mukul Sangma toughened the stand of the state government not to implement the inner line permit (ILP) in the state. The CM had also stated that there will be no dialogue with the pro ILP groups as long as they are agitating.

On Wednesday, the Meghalaya United Alliance II (MUA-II) government stood by chief minister Mukul Sangma decision to work on the Tenancy Act to control influx while turning down the growing demand for Inner Line Permit (ILP) by several groups in the state saying that only the union government has to power to decide to allow its implementation. – By Our Reporter
