PDF MLAs decide to extend unconditional support to MDA govt

IMG_5207SHILLONG, JULY 6: The four legislators of the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) has decided to continue extending full support to the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government led by the National People’s Party (NPP).

The decision was also conveyed to the chief minister Conrad K Sangma by the PDF MLAs during a meeting held here on Friday. They were also accompanied by PDF chief Ivanlumlang Marbaniang.

The NPP had talked tough that the MDA will survive with the support of 34 MLAs after PDF chairman Pynshngain N Syiem recently threatened that the party wout withdraw support to the MDA government.

Four PDF legislators – Hamletson Dohling, Banteidor Lyngdoh, Jason Sawkmie Mawlong and Gavin Miguel Mylliem – are part of the MDA government and two among them, Hamlet and Banteidor, are Cabinet ministers.

Speaking to reporters after meeting the CM, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh said, “All the four MLAs and also the president of the party have decided to continue supporting the MDA government under his (Conrad) leadership.”

Maintaining that they have nothing against the present government, he said, “Besides all this while, we have also taken up lots of issues concerning the people of the state and the government as well as its partners we are committed in fulfilling their aspirations.”

Asked on the claim made by Syiem that the PDF would also asked its MLAs to pull out of the MDA government, Lyngdoh however said that the matter is totally an internal affair of the party and it has no connection with the issue of whether to withdraw support to the MDA.

“It is an internal matter of the party and we will discuss and resolve it within the four walls of the party. But to support or withdraw support, we have responsibility as elected members to fulfil the aspirations of the people who have given us this mandate,” he said.

Syiem had alleged the National People’s Party (NPP) and United Democratic Party (UDP) for conspiring to topple the ruling People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) executive committee led by the PDF in the KHADC.

Syiem had claimed that that the verbal agreement with NPP was that PDF will get two Cabinet berths and the NPP MDCs will support the PDA coalition in KHADC for the reciprocal support of the party to the MDA government.

Whether this will not affect the PDF-led EC in the KHADC, the minister however said that the party would soon convene a meeting with all the MDCs of the party to discuss and resolve the differences if there are any.

“We will call all our MDCs to discuss and to know what they want and what made some of them to come forward and rebel against the leader (Syiem). We are not saying that we are blaming anyone but we will definitely resolve all misunderstandings,” he added.
