PDF not a pol party: Roy

SHILLONG, MAY 25: The United Democratic Party (UDP) today said the People Democratic Front (PDF) cannot be considered as a political party since it is being headed by a suspended member of the ruling Congress.

“We are yet to consider the PDF as a political party since its leader (PN Syiem, KHADC CEM) is still a Congressman who is under suspension,” UDP chief Donkupar Roy told newsmen on Thursday.

His statement came as a response to a query after the UDP and the Hill State People Democratic Party (HSPDP) decided to join force to fight the forthcoming 2018 state elections.

Roy however said apart from the PDF, the UDP-HSPDP is welcoming other political parties to support the alliance.

It may be mentioned here, the UDP central executive committee (CEC) had earlier directed its five MDCs to withdraw support to the ruling People Democratic Forum (PDF) in the KHADC led by Syiem.

However, its three MDCs – Teinwell Dkhar, Donkupar Sumer and Albinus Lyngdoh went against the party’s decision by continuing their support to the Syiem led PDF executive committee.
