SHILLONG, NOV 23: The newly floated People Democratic Front (PDF) today announced its first list of 11 candidates for the upcoming 2018 state Assembly election.
At least seven sitting members of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) were included in the list declared by the party president Ivanlumlang Marbaniang during the central election committee (CEC) meeting held here on Thursday.
These include Grace Mary Kharpuri from Pynursla constituency, Banteidor Lyngdoh – Mawkynrew, James Sylliang – Mawhati, Morningstar Mawsor – Mawshynrut, Latiplang Kharkongor – Nongthymmai, Good Leaderson Nongsiej – Nongstoin and Hadrian Lyngdoh – Mawkyrwat.
Kharpuri is one among the three women sitting members of the KHADC who will be contesting against political heavy weights in the upcoming state poll.
The other candidates include former MLA Draison Kharshiing from Nartiang, former NGO leader Hamletson Dohling from Mylliem, Jason Sawkmie Mawlong from Umsning and Airmarchal Diengngan from Ranikor.
During the meeting, Marbaniang also expressed his full confidence that the candidates will perform well and ensure victory to the party in the upcoming election.
Meanwhile, PDF general secretary Auspicious L Mawphlang informed that the central election committee would also soon announce the second list of candidates.
