PDF unveils its symbol

vlcsnap-2017-10-13-19h55m09s167SHILLONG, OCT 13: The People’s Democratic Front (PDF) today said it is trying to woo sitting MLAs into its fold ahead of the 2018 state assembly elections.

Speaking at the unveiling of the party’s symbol “candles” in the city here, PDF general secretary Auspicious Lyngdoh said that the party is also trying to woo the MLAs into their fold.

As of now two legislators, suspended Congress MLA – PN Syiem and Lamboklang Mylliem of the North East Socialist Democratic Party will be joining the party shortly, he said.

He informed that the candidates for the upcoming election will soon be announced once the election committee is formed.

“We are in the process of forming the district committees. Once this is done we will have the election committee, who will decide on the candidates,” Lyngdoh said.

The PDF general secretary further expressed confidence that the party will be able to field candidates in all the 36 seats of Khasi-Jaintia Hills and also contest from the Garo Hills region which is having 24 assembly segments.

According to him, the party is planning to visit Garo Hills very soon.

Lyngdoh also informed that as part of their plans to spread their wings in Khasi-Jaintia Hills region on October 16, the party will be visiting Mairang constituency to form the zonal committee and October 21 in Nartiang constituency.

With regards to the manifesto of the party, he said that experts as well as youths are involved in the drafting process.

Earlier in his address, PDF president Ivanlumlang Marbaniang said that with the allotment of a symbol to the PDF, the party has now become complete and is ready to face the elections.

It may be mentioned that earlier this month the Election Commission of India, while accepting the registration of PDF allotted “candles” as its symbol. The Election Commission issued the symbol to the PDF on October 3 and the party was informed on October 9.

However, the party informed that even though candles has been allotted to the PDF, but in constituencies where the party may not field candidates the Independents can use candles as their symbol.

The unveiling of the election symbol of the PDF was attended by the party MDCs, ticket aspirants and members.
