SHILLONG, APR 12: A candle light vigil for peace was held by the Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress at Asibra on Saturday with prayers, placards and peace slogans.

The slogan chosen for the vigil was “Youth for peace, peace for a secured future. A better future for our children and the children of our children.” The vigil was organized because of the present volatile situation especially in militants infested Garo hills.

MPYC president Richard Marak said the people of the state are craving for peace and as citizens everyone should strive towards this end. The government, the police, the civil society organizations and the church leaders are not the only stakeholders in bringing peace and prosperity in the state, he said.

“We, too, have to lend a hand if we are to build a lasting peace in the region,” Marak said adding “This situation has been created by a handful of misguided youth and with proper guidance and public participation in peace building we can achieve lasting peace.”

Marak appealed to all citizens of the state not look only towards the government, the police, the civil society organizations and the church leaders to bring peace, but everybody should be an active participant and work towards achieving and keeping peace.- By Our Reporter
