Petrol bombs hurled, shops set ablaze

IMG-20130926-WA0004SHILLONG, SEPT 26: Two garment shops in Police Bazaar  (Khyndai lad) were set ablaze by miscreants early on Thursday morning hours before the two days office picketing called by the pro ILP activists started. The owner of one of the shop Satyanarayan garment shop was also assaulted by around eight boys before they threw petrol bomb into the shop.

According to the police of the Sardar police station eight boys equipped with daos and knives assaulted the owner Guru Prasad Chaukhani and then threw petrol bomb into the shop. The Satyanarayan shop, which is a garment shop, immediately caught fire and was completely gutted.

East Khasi hills SP M Kharkhrang told this website the fire spread to the nearby shop JB Textile and it was also partially damaged. He said a case of arson has been registered against the miscreants and police are trying their best to identify the boys who not only assaulted Guru Prasad but also threw petrol bomb into the shop.

An officer attached with the Sardar police station said that Guru Prasad received a minor injury. He said, “ The victim was immediately rushed to the hospital and the doctor said that it was just a minor injuries.”

Following the petrol bomb attack, fear has gripped the business community in the city.  The attack early on Thursday morning in the heart of the city was unexpected and caught the security personnel by surprised. – By Our Reporter
