Plea for reopening of bookstalls

SHILLONG, JUNE 22: Bookstall owners in Iewduh market have sought the intervention of the acting Syiem of Hima Mylliem Ainam Manik Syiem for allowing reopening of their shops.

The plea was made by at least 16 bookstall owners on Monday, after the state government has decided to allow re-opening of shops at Iewduh market excluding bookstalls, selling of fish, meat and vegetables.

“We request you kindly allow opening of the bookstalls at Iewduh for the greater interest of the students’ community…,” the letter to the acting Syiem.

It said that the students’ community mostly depends on the services provided by the bookstalls at iewduh.

“Almost every school of Shillong is conducting online classes, as such students are in need of reference books besides other materials like exercise books, textbooks, graph books, geometry box, dictionary etc. Bookstalls opened at other parts of the town are not adequate to cater to the needs of the students as bookstalls at Iewduh (Book Lane) is the main hub of books,” the letter also stated.
