Police arrest 2 impostors, 2 drug peddlers

SHILLONG, DEC 21: Two persons were arrested from the East Khasi Hills district on Friday for impersonating as police commandos, and a fake pistol recovered from their possession. The duo – Danny Dkhar (28) from Madanrting and Robert Kharsati (32) from Smit village – have also been charged with robbery and kidnapping. They have been remanded to five days police custody.

The two are accused of posing as personnel of the special operation team (SOT) of the police and robbing a person at Dhankheti at around 9:30 p.m. on November 22. Additional superintendent of police (Crime) Vivek Syiem said the other incident involving the duo took place at Laitumkhrah on December 8 when they kidnapped the driver of a tourist taxi (ML 04B 0278), Pynshai Rymbai, from Jaintia hills. They are believed to have used a fake pistol (lighter) for the crime.

“After investigating the two cases, we finally zeroed in on the culprits. Cases of kidnapping, robbing, besides under sections 27 (A) & 21 (A) of the NDPS Act have been registered against them.” said Syiem.

The arrest of the imposters, who appeared to be habitual drug users,  and their subsequent interrogation, lead to the arrest of two drug peddlers identified as John Baglary from Assam and Zonglal Kipgen from Manipur. Syiem said heroin worth Rs 17,000 packed in a container and a TVS bike without registration number plate were also seized from Zonglal’s possession.

The police appealed to those at the receiving end of the impostor duo’s crime to come forward and lodge complaints. “The two are habitual offenders and are suspect to have been involved in many cases” said Syiem. (By Our Reporter)
