SHILLONG, OCT 3: The Nongstoin police on Thursday arrested the finance secretary of Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM) West Khasi Hills unit Gabriel Sohlang for his alleged involvement in the torching of four government offices in Nongstoin. West Khasi Hills district SP S Nongtnger told informed that Sohlang was apprehended by the police Thursday evening from Nongstoin.
Nongtnger said, “He will be forwarded in four arson cases including torching of Executive Engineer PWD (Roads) office, the Meghalaya Khadi and Village Industries Board and Fishery office at Nongstoin on September 23 and the Office of the Animals Husbandry & veterinary office at Nongstoin on 1 October.”
The police had also on September 26 arrested Arful K. Bani, HANM president West Khasi hills unit and charged him in three arson cases. HANM, which has been demanding immediate removal of the West Khasi hills deputy commissioner, had also launched agitation to pressurize the government on the removal issue. – By Our Reporter
