Police to attach properties of rapist cop

copSHILLONG, AUG 3: The Meghalaya police will soon seize the properties of the fugitive rapist cop sub inspector Nurul Islam, who allegedly raped two minor sisters last March.

South West Garo Hills SP R Muthu on Friday informed that the police have written to the deputy commissioners of some districts in Assam to find out whether Nurul Islam has any property in the neighbouring state.

Muthu said,“We have written letters to Barpeta, Dhubri and other districts inquiring whether Islam has any property there.”

Islam, who was in charge of the Ampati police station, went into hiding after he allegedly raped two minor sisters. He had escaped from police custody and the police have not been able to trace him.

Mathu claimed that Islam is not in Meghalaya and police are searching for him in Assam and other locations where he is suspected to have taken shelter.

Answering a query, Muthu said the police have not been able to arrest Islam as there is no specific intelligence input about him.

The police have already frozen the bank and FD accounts of the Islam.

After the alleged rape, Nurul was arrested and brought to Tura where he was mysteriously kept in the police reserve quarter from where he made a dramatic escape. Three constables who were guarding him were suspended.

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights had also slammed the Meghalaya police for its failure to arrest Islam.- By Our Reporter
