SHILLONG, JAN 7: Banned Khasi rebel outfit, the Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) on Tuesday alleged that the police department wants to continue its old age tradition by using the surrendered cadres for their “self-benefits”.
“It has been proved beyond doubt that the police department wants to carry out their old age tradition of using the surrendered cadres for their own motivational self benefits,” HNLC publicity secretary Sainkupar Nongtraw said in a statement on Wednesday.
His statement came as a reaction to reports which alleged that the police department is not happy with the move of the state government to call the HNLC for peace talks.
Stating that it does not want to end up like the surrendered cadres, Nongtraw alleged that surrendered cadres along with the help of the police department were responsible for extortions and eliminations of our cadres.
“We do not want to take away the employment opportunities from our youths like the way the SHNLC cadres did,” he said while pointing out that the main objective of the HNLC is to contribute towards the development of the Khasi-Jaintia region and to give back to our society in return.
He also informed that all the while the outfit has stopped recruiting new cadres and other activities just on the hope of going ahead with the peace talks.
While saying so, the publicity secretary further claimed that many educated youths have expressed their concern to join the HNLC.“But the leadership kept the matter in abeyance keeping in mind the perspectives of the peace process,” he claimed.
The HNLC further maintained that it would like to make it clear that its subscribers from the tribal as well as the non tribal community are continuing to give their financial support to the HNLC.
“The newly elected finance secretary of the HNLC is Bah Wanshan Marwein and henceforth all financial deals will be executed and handled by Bah Marwein,” Nongtraw said.
Stating that the government cannot take away the rights of our self existence, he said, the HNLC does not demand any portions of other’s states but its main concern is the ‘Hynniewtrep’s birth right’.- By Our Reporter
