Preventive policing in GH

SHILLONG, NOV 12: SPs in the five districts of Garo hills have been directed to educate the public about police initiative in preventing kidnappings on the highways.

“In order to strengthen the preventive policing mechanism in Garo hills, we have directed all the SPs in Garo Hills to educate the public about this initiative to prevent kidnappings and abduction along the highways,” Inspector General of Police (Ops) GHP Raju informed.

Towards this, the South West Garo Hills SP Aditya Goenka today held a meeting with all businessmen from Ampati and Mankachar areas to make them partners in this preventive policing exercise for their safety and security. The meeting was held at Ampati police station.

“This was in order to sensitise the people to inform the police in case they are served with a demand for extortion by anyone,” Raju said. He said the police have also advice people from Mankachar to move in a larger convoy when they go for weekly haats to prevent kidnapping..

Raju informed, all the OCs and ICs posted on the highways are extending police escort to civilian vehicles in vulnerable segments.

“It is also reiterated that people have a right to have a secure passage on all National Highways and the state highways,” Raju said adding “Police is duty bound to provide security at all times when people approached as well as organize police patrol parties on highways to instill confidence in the people.”

He reiterated that district SPs have also been directed to ensure “visible policing” on all the highways at all times.- By Our Reporter
