Probe killings: ANVC(B)

SHILLONG, FEB 5: Denying its involvement in the killings of the three contractors, the ANVC(B) on Wednesday demanded investigation into the killing to establish who is behind it ad the motives. Militants shot dead the three contractors on the foothills of Nokrek national biosphere park near Sasatgre-Chandigre in West Garo Hills District on Tuesday after abducting four of them at gun point two days ago.

“A thorough investigation has to carried to find out the motive behind the killing and organisation involved,” ANVC (B) statement issued on Wednesday said.

Denying its involvement in the killings, ANVC (B) said it does not have any hand in the killing of three contractors. The statement said, “ANVC (B) cadres may be scattered but is not desperate to go on a killing spree, especially the civilians.”

The ANVC(B) said that allegation of its involvement is only an attempt to malign its image and derail the effort to bring normalcy in Garo hills.

The killing of the three contractors came to light when fourth contractor escape with a bullet injury and narrated the tale to villagers who rushed him to the nearest police outpost at Rongram.

Unidentified militants abducted four persons on Sunday afternoon while they had gone to Sasatgre-Chandigre village in the district to inspect a proposed project to draw electrification line for the Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana before they were kidnapped.

Among those killed, is a former politician and contractor Rutherford R Marak, a resident of Tura. Marak had also contested unsuccessfully the Autonomous District Council elections five years ago.- By Our Reporter
