Project “Safe And Secure Shillong” launched

Shillong, Oct 19: Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma said that the relationship between “citizens and government” is the pillar of successful democracy while launching the “Safe- Secure Shillong” project at Yojana Bhavan Friday assuring that within two years time the people will have a “safe and secure” Shillong.

Sangma told the gathering that the government had invested a lot in other developmental projects which have died down or delayed because of inadequate security in the state as the government did not give much thought to the security aspect of the citizens.

Admitting that the police department and the security of its citizens had not been given much thought by the government, Sangma revealed that during the last one year the government had worked to launch the “Safe And Secure Shillong” project which is fully funded by the state government.

Sangma promised that in two years time citizens will have a “Safe And Secure” Shillong which will be replicated in each districts of the State.
Meghalaya DGP N. Ramachandran said this particular project will be challenging as policing in Shillong is always difficult in the city that is not planned as there is lots of floating population. e saidEven as he informed that the Meghalaya police have limited police staff, resources and funds but the “latest technologies like CCTV and other software’s will be installed in the major points of the state capital in order to prevent criminal elements from committing any crimes.
Ramachandran urged business institution to install CCTV in order to help the police to zero down on the criminals.

Others who were present at the launch of the “Safe and Secure Shillong” project were home minister HDR Lngdoh, urban affair minister Ampeerin Lyngdoh, chief seretary WMS Pariat, East Khasi hills SP M Khakhrang. –By Our Reporter
