Public to march against power failure on September 7

Shillong, September 1: The public including the students will take out a procession September 7 to protest against the frequent power cut in Nongpoh and certain areas of the Ri-Bhoi district.

The procession is also aimed at putting pressure on MeECL to regularize electricity supply in the affected villages in the district so that the public, especially the students, do not have to go through period of darkness.

The decision to this effect was taken at a meeting Saturday at Sajer community hall. The procession will be taken out at 10 am from Pahamsyiem and end at the deputy commissioner’s office.

A petition would also be submitted asking the MeECL and the four legislators of the district fulfill the demand.

The meeting was attended by the members of the Khasi Students Union (KSU), North Khasi Hills District, Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP), Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) and the Ri Bhoi Youth Federation (RBYF) including the public and students.

A  coordination committee on electricity with HNYF president G. H. Kharshanlor as the chairman was also formed.-By Our Reporter
