Pune also assures of NE students safety to ministerial team

Shillong, August 26:After Karnataka, the Meghalaya ministerial delegation were assure by the Pune’s Collector Vikas Deshmukh and Police Commissioner  Gulab Rao that all steps have been taken to ensure that people of north east’s origin are no longer harassed in Pune.The Meghalaya ministerial delegation consisting of AT Mondal, Ampareen Lyngdoh and AL Hek  were briefed by these two officers Sunday on Pune police effort of ensuring safety to the NE people working and studying there on the wake of the recent incidents of mass exodus of north east students from the city after some of them were attacked.

Rao informed the three ministers of the intensive patrolling taken by the police particularly in the areas where the north east community resides. He said helpline telephone numbers were put up for round the clock assistance and meeting of various community including peopke from the NE region were also organized instill a sense of security among the NE people.

Rao reiterated that the north east community living in Pune need not fear as all security measures are in place to ensure their full protection. He also informed that the police are in constant touch with recently formed North East Forum members.

Mondal asked Vikas Deshmukh to assist the students from Meghalaya in case they encountered any problems in their educational institutions. He informed that Meghalaya would initiate steps to register the names and other details of all the students and those who are working outside the state to form a database so as to enable the Government to have a reference mechanism.

Earlier in the day the ministers met the students from Meghalaya at Union Biblical Semenary, Pune and informed them that the main objective of the visit is to instill confidence and a sense of security among them after the perceived threats by some anti social elements recently. Later in the evening the delegation also met the Meghalaya students studying in Mumbai at the Mumbai Meghalaya House.

The ministerial delegation assured the students that there was no security risk and they should carry on with their normal activities and assured them that the government is vigilant to their needs and all efforts are being made for their security and protection. –By Our Reporter
