SHILLONG, SEPT 26: The BJP government at centre will soon send a proposal to the cabinet for a stringent law against racial discrimination and also introduction of subject on the north eastern region from primary to Ph.D level to commence from next year.

Union minister of state for home affairs Kiren Rijiju informed that  the proposal suggest that the law on ‘racial discrimination’ be made a provision in the Indian Penal Code.

Rijiju said this while addressing the Mega Arunachal Tribe Festival – 2015 cum cultural exchange programme with north eastern region organised by the Arunachal Student Union (ASU) att U Soso Tham auditorium on Saturday.

The theme of the programme is – “Standing United to Preserve and Expose our Culture Worldwide”.

Rijiju said, “ So any person who abuses on racial lines will be taken to task and we are coming up a strong legislative provision.”  Stating that racial discrimination is the worst form of crime, he said, “We all are human beings and if we are discriminated because of our racial background it is really unfair and unfortunate.”

Rijiju informed that within Delhi police, many committees, where NE youths are part, are being formed adding “When somebody commits crimes against NE, we can’t stop it from happening but we can definitely take action.”

Rijiju informed that the centre through the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has decided to formulate its decision to include subject about the North East region in the education curriculum from next year. He said, “We are formulating it probably by next year, right from nursery school up to class XI and from degree, MA, M.Phil to Ph.D level  we will be having chapters about NE region.”

Apart from this, Rijiju also said that the centre as part of its Incredible India Campaign have been spending money to showcase north east region so that people of the country and the world know about the beauty of NE and its culture.
