Hospitals spurns rape victim

SHILLONG, JAN 10: An FIR was filed on Tuesday against two private hospitals in the city for allegedly refusing to provide medical treatment to a minor girl, who was gang-raped by six people on January 1.The FIR was filed by Thma U Rangli Juki (TUR) leader Angela Rangad against Woodland Hospital and Bethany Hospital, both private medical institutions.

Rangad stated in the FIR that on January 3, when the victim was taken to Woodland hospital for medical help, the staff there refused to help saying it is a “police case”. Later, they went to Bethany hospital where the staff of the hospital informed that “the hospital does not deal with such cases”, she complained.

The 17 year old girl was gang-raped by six persons, who recently surrendered before the police. The gang rape took place on January 1 at Mawmang locality of Mawrynkneng village. The Sordar and Rangbah Dong were also arrested for abetment in the case.
