SHILLONG, FEB 26: At least sixteen people died and 50 others have been grievously injured in an accident that took place after an over speeding truck carrying passengers for the church service on Sunday overturned at Nongspung village near Nongstoin in West Khasi Hills on Sunday.
Police informed that the over speeding truck hit the railing at the side of the road. The passengers travelling fell out of the truck. Some fell into the deep gorge. According to, West Khasi hills SP Sylvester Nontnger total 16 people died after the truck driver lost control of the vehicle on a steep turn, the accident caused due to negligence. The SP said the over speeding truck was carrying over 60 passengers.Exact number of people travelling is yet to be ascertained. The injured including the driver have been rushed to nearby hospitals.
