SHILLONG, JUNE 29: Miscreants broke into the ICAR branch of the SBI at Umiam, Ri Bhoi district and looted Rs 11.86 lakh, police informed. The incident took place on the Tuesday night, when the miscreants managed to broke into the branch by cutting the collapsible gate and the safe vault with gas welding machine, police said.
Besides decamping with Rs 11,86,966 lakh another Rs 87,667 was burnt while the miscreants were cutting the safe vault with gas welding machine.
During enquiry, it transpired that the miscreants had disconnected the CCTV and alarm system of the strong room before committing the crime. Investigation is on to nab the culprits responsible for the crime.-By Our Reporter
