Rupees, dollars recovered from Jha’s home

SHILLONG, JUNE 4: The state CID recovered Rs 11 lakh from the residence of the tainted CMJ University chancellor CM Jha, 50 numbers of US 100 dollars and four US 50 dollars on Wednesday.

The state CID also handed over the residential building located at Crinoline in Laban to the wife of Jha with a rider that she cannot dispose off or sell the property but can use it for residential purpose.

Additional SP (CID) S Thamar, also the investigating officer it the CMJ University case, told reporters that documents were also recovered and some of them were original. He informed that this would help in strengthening the case and subsequent charge-sheet against Jha.

Thamar said, “We have recovered around Rs 11 lakh from the residence of Jha besides 50 numbers of US 100 dollars and four US 50 dollars.”

It is also learnt that the court has also ordered for detachment of other properties of Jha at Jorabat and Lawpyllun in Ri Bhoi district.

The CID also recovered documents relating to the CMJ University and CMJ Foundation, a sponsoring body of the University.

Jha, was arrested on April 22 last from his village in Bihar after he was found to be issuing fake degrees certificate through his CMJ  University.

Former Meghalaya governor RS Mooshahary, who in his capacity as the state governor was also the visitor of the university,  had filed an FIR against the CMJ University and its chancellor CM Jha for issuing fake degrees certificates to hundreds of students.- By Our Reporter
