Rymbui slams Pala over corruption allegation against UDP

SHILLONG, JUNE 7: United Democratic Party (UDP) leader and cabinet minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Tuesday asked the Congress chief Vincent H Pala to introspect as to why everybody is leaving him alone instead of speaking “nonsense” and acting “innocent”.

“Vincent Pala has crossed the limit of decency because he should understand that as a president of the Congress he should introspect why everybody is leaving him and now he is starting to allege everybody,” Rymbui told reporters.

He was reacting to Pala’s allegation that the UDP is more corrupt than any other coalition partners of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government.

Rymbui, who is also holding charge of education and home portfolios, said that Pala should spell out the policies of the Congress for 2023 if he is a real politician.

“But from a senior politician and that too a three-time MP like him to term everybody as corrupt and that every department is corrupt, it is totally unacceptable. I respect him and his politics but to come from his mouth these types of allegations it is again unacceptable,” Rymbui said as he concluded by saying that “Vincent speaks nonsense and acts innocent”.

When asked about the Congress’ decision to chargesheet the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government, the UDP leader said, “The MPCC president is trying to become the petitioner, the investigating officer and the prosecutor and the judge – so let the people judge.”

Earlier, Pala had said that if the UDP gets portfolios like PWD and finance “they will sell everything and whatever chance they get they are looting (the state)”.

Alleging that there is so much corruption in the district council which is led by the UDP, he had said, “The way they put gates all along the highways…for checking illegal trading of forest produce, farmers produce and different items.”

“In terms of the law and order, the way drugs are available, the way liquor is available even late at night. You should be aware that in Meghalaya, 42 percent (of the population) are single mothers and more than 46 percent of the young girls below 20 years got married, why all these are happening it is because of poverty. Now who holds these portfolios – if you see home is being held by the UDP, liquor (excise) also is being controlled by the UDP,” he had said.
