Safe Secure Shillong

SHILLONG, JULY 8: A programme of the Safe Secure Shillong project was organized by the East Khasi hills district police in collaboration with the Synod college at Dinam Hall Jaiaw on Monday.

East Khasi Hills SP M Kharkhrang called on the student community to abide by the law and refrain from the use of drugs. He also stressed that the awareness programme is part of the efforts of  the police in making Safe-Secure-Shillong by making youths an asset to the society.

Kharkhrang requested the students’ community to be ambassadors in spreading the message to other members.

EKH SP (city) Vivek Syiem gave on account of the rising narcotic drugs related cases and drug peddling in the city. He also spoke about the consequences it would have on the students’ community and the society and the stringent legal implications.

SDM&HO of the  police unit hospital Dr S Khonglah highlighted the ill effects of chewing of tobacco, smoking, consumption of alcohol and drugs on the physical and mental health of human being particulars teenagers.

Inspector IS Marak, in charge of Lumdiengjri traffic branch, gave a presentation on traffic awareness emphasizing on the need to abide by the traffic rules and most important on the consequences of driving under influence of alcohol and drugs.- By Our Reporter
