Opposition Congress candidate for Tura parliamentary constituency Saleng A Sangma on Friday said that he never serves liquor to people during elections.

“I don’t give liquor during my election. I won’t give and I will not give again tomorrow. If somebody wants to drink, (they can) go to somebody, I cannot offer drinks to anybody. I may be poor or may not be poor but I will never entertain liquor, not me or not my team,” Sangma told reporters.

“Moreover, I don’t have money. So those who want money let them go to other parties. I can only offer a prayer and I can pray for them because my whole objective is to protect my people and to protect Garo Hills and protect Meghalaya and our religion,” he said.

On TMC’s decision to field a candidate from Tura, Sangma said, “It (TMC) is their choice, if they want to field it. We cannot say don’t field after all it is the party which will decide whom they want to field.”

Asked about the INDIA block, the Gambegre legislator said, “That might be but specially only for the West Bengal area I think so. Other parts of India they are not having any talks till now.”
