SHILLONG, APR 18: Meghalaya state NCP legislator Sanbor Shullai was reelected to the post of Meghalaya deputy speaker for second consecutive terms and created a history of sort by becoming the first legislator to be reelected to the post for the second term. Shullai is described by many as “man who is rooted to the grass-root and the below poverty line (BPL) citizens. He had been reelected for the second term as legislator in the February 23 elections from South Shillong constituency.

Joining in the congratulatory speech on the last day of the assembly session, chief minister Mukul Sangma said: “Shullai’s election to the post of deputy speaker unopposed reflects his acceptability to the members on the treasury as well as opposition.”

And for good measure Sangma added that Shullai is a competent man who leaves no stone unturned to  serve the people,

United Democratic Party (UDP) president and former chief minister Donkupar Roy also showered praises on Shullai saying that he is a man who fights for the rights of the people. He also said that the deputy speaker will be a linkman between members of the ruling and the opposition benches on issues concerning development of the state.
