Sangma distributes cheques to beneficiaries of CM Special Assistance Scheme

Shillong, Oct 6: Meghalaya  Chief Minister Mukul Sangma extended the Chief Minister’s Special Assistance Scheme to more than 300 beneficiaries clubbed under three categories- the senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs) and widows from Shillong and Mylliem Block of East Khasi hills district.

Distributing the cheques to the beneficiaries at Shillong Club Saturday, Sangma said, “The reason for the conceptualization of the scheme can be summed up in one sentence – “My heart told me to do so.”

Sangma informed, “Meghalaya government has gone a step ahead and will soon launch the “Megha Health Insurance Scheme” under which all families in Meghalaya will be provided insurance to the tune of Rs. 90,000.” According to him, the schemes initiated by the union government are ‘half done and said, “When we try to implement these schemes in the State, we run into a lot of problems.”

Sangma also informed of the central scheme called the Rashtriya Swastya Bima Yojana (RSBY) which provides insurance coverage to BLP families. Under the Scheme, 150 beneficiaries from Shillong city and Mylliem were each given assistance of Rs. 500 per month.

Others who were present during the function were Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh, IT minister AL Hek, Principal Secretary NH Samath and Social Welfare Department director HM Shangpliang.- By Our Reporter
