Say no to bottled water

SHILLONG, MAY 2: In keeping with the Central Government’s initiative of ‘Clean India Movement’ (Swachh Bharat Mission), a ‘Citizen Centric Movement’ with a view to achieve a completely clean and healthy India by October 2, 2019 marking the 150th birth anniversary of father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi, the West Garo Hills District Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh, has issued an advisory not to use bottled water-so called mineral water during the conduct of any official meetings, conferences, workshops etc.

Stating that on most occasions, the served water bottles are left half used and thereby wasting good amount of precious liquid, the Deputy Commissioner said that left over bottles only contributes to plastic waste. He also suggested for the use of low cost simple candle water filters for smaller offices and installation of electric operated aqua guard water dispensers for offices which remain crowded during office transactions hours.

The Ministry of Drinking Water & Sanitation, Government of India, has already stopped using bottled water during official functions and some States are also doing the same following the Central Government’s directives.
