Security beefed up ahead R’Day

SHILLONG, JAN 25: Security has been beefed up in the state to ensure peaceful celebrations of the Republic Day to be held tomorrow.

In the state’s capital, Governor Ganga Prasad will hoist the national flag and take the salute at Polo Ground while the Deputy Commissioners/Sub-Divisional Officers/EACs will hoist the national flag and take the salute at their respective districts and Sub Divisions.

Speaking to reporters, East Khasi Hills District Superintendent of Police (SP) Davis NR Marak said that elaborate security arrangement has been made ahead of the celebrations.

In the district, the celebration will be held in three locations at Shillong, Sohra and Pynursla, which is a newly created civil sub-division.

“We have put adequate deployment in and around Shillong and in addition to that security arrangement was also made for the two places as well,” he said.

In regards to the city, the SP further informed that police are going to intensify patrolling and checkings aand there will be different nagas.

Asked, he said that there is no threat received but it is always good to be a little cautious.
