
SHILLONG, SEPT 25: Six police personnel were injured when an impromptu procession staged by the pro Inner Line Permit (ILP) women organizations turned violent at Mothphran after the sit-in-demonstration held at students’ field on Wednesday. Pro ILP activists pelted stones at Mothphran inuring six security personnel that included two policewomen.
The CSWO and KWAADA- two pro –ILP women ngos- earlier tried to staged the sit-in-protest at the additional secretariat parking lot but were prevented by the police. The district administration had imposed section 144 CrPC to prevent the proposed demonstration.
However when the protestors gathered in the venue police immediately bundled them in the five waiting mini buses and were taken to the Students Field in Jaiaw.

As soon as the sit in demonstration of the two women organizations were over its members tried taking out a procession from Jaiaw to Motphran . But they were prevented

by the security personnel who were present in large number.
East Khasi hills SP M Kharkhrang said that as the protesters were prevented from taking out the impromptu procession they started pelting stones at the security personnel injuring six of them in Motphran.
Two are women and the other four male police personnel who were injured. Kharkhrang informed that all of them were taken for medical treatment in a city hospital.
Kharkhrang said, “Police will register a case against the organizers on the matter.”

Meanwhile, women activists have expressed resentment over the attitude of the district administration for not allowing them to hold the demonstration in the parking lot of the additional secretariat.
KWAADA adviser Jenny Dkhar said that the government has failed to respect the women’s fraternity. She said, “We have sought permission from the authority for the past couple of days but were informed today about the refusal.” She made it clear that their intention was to demonstrate in a peaceful manner but were sadly refused.
CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing said the agitation staged on Wednesday is to protest against the adamant attitude showed by the state government towards the demand of the people of the state for implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) to prevent illegal inflow of influx into the state. She was of the opinion that the proposed ‘Tenancy Act’ of the government will not stop influx.
Leaders of the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) and different ngos members were also seen supporting the demonstration. – By Our Reporter
