Bandh hits Garo hills

SHILLONG, SEPT 25: Normal life came to a grinding halt on Wednesday in the five districts of the Garo hills region in view of the two-day bandh called by the Garo National Libration Army militant outfit beginning today. Government offices, educational institutions, business houses and markets were closed and attendance in government offices recorded less than 10 per cent, West Garo Hills deputy commissioner Pravin Bakshi informed.

Bakshi said people have refused to venture out due to fear unleashed by the militant outfit when on Tuesday night  GNLA lobbed a hand grenade at a stone crusher unit in Selbalgre, 22 kms away from Tura damaging a truck parked in the factory. While no one was injured, but the fear stricken employees ran for shelter.-By Our Reporter
