Senior journalist Prasad Gupta passed away

Shillong, Oct 6:  Senior journalist Prasad Gupta, 55, passed away at Guwahati on Saturday.  He is survived by his wife and three sons. Popular as ‘Kaku’, Gupta had endeared the journalist fraternity and the people in general with his honest and straight-forward approach.

A keen sports person and an inspiring, joyous and enthusiastic figure, Gupta’s passing away came as a shock to those who were closely associated with him. “An eternal optimist, Kaku’s vacuum will never be filled up,” said a young journalist. “He meant so much to us,” the young scribe said even as he detailed about the senior journalist’s efforts at getting novices into the media world.

Gupta, who was associated with several media organizations, both print and broadcast, was also associated as special correspondent, economic affairs, of ‘Eastern Chronicle’ and news editor of ‘Media Plus’.  He was executive director of the United News Network (UNN), which he had pioneered.

Gupta, who was treasurer of the Shillong Press Club, had also co-founded the All Meghalaya Journalists’ Union, of which he was elected the general secretary recently.

His mortal remains would be brought to the Shillong Press Club at 1 pm on Sunday to enable people to pay last respects before cremation. –Shillong Press Club Release
