TURA, NOV 20: Seven Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) militants including a village Nokma were arrested with IED by Meghalaya police from a village in South West Garo hills district on Thursday.

Police arrested the seven GNLA militants including a village nokma and Garo Students’ Union (GSU) general secretary from Chepagre, Rukolpara, Salmanpara, Boldakgre in Ampati police informed.

The militants have been identified as Milton K Sangma (23)  Predit K Sangma (26) (GSU General Secretary), Pollen  Sangma  (38),  (Nokma),  Hemport  M  Sangma  (48),  Grepil M Sangma (33) Jengsen  M  Sangma  (51),  Pandit S Sangma (28).

Police informed that an  IED (Clay more mine) weighing approx 6 kgs, one pistol, five live ammo, two detonators, detonating wire, electric circuit, remote, batteries, mobile with SIM cards were recovered and seized from them.

The arrest of the militants comes two days after two policemen died and three injured during an IED attacked by suspected GNLA. The GNLA, however, had denied hands in the IED attack on the police.

During interrogation, Miltan K Sangma is said to have disclosed to the police the game plan was hatched by the GNLA commander in chief Sohan D Shira.

The police were told that Sohan   formed special teams to attack police in various parts of Garo hills and it is alleged that he gave instructions to carry out attacks after the Wangala festival. Miltan K Sangma also told the police that Rakkam, GNLA area commander of Nongalbibra area along with GNLA militants Timtam, Sanja Ch Sangma, Geloram and others ambushed the police party on November 18 at Siju killing two police personnel.

The police were also told that the GNLA militant Rikrak of Baichung ChMomin command and others were gived the job to lob a bomb at Rongram police outpost yesterday evening which they executed.- From Our Correspondent
